ICARUS Devices has announced that Apollo MedFlight will begin integrating ICARUS training into its fixed-wing medical fleet.
The Instrument Conditions Awareness Recognition and Understanding System (ICARUS) is a smart view limiting device that allows instructor pilots to simulate degraded visual environments (DVE) in the aircraft. ICARUS changes visibility and allows instructor pilots to dial in the visibility for dynamic scenario-based training.
Art Connolly, Chief Pilot at Apollo MedFlight, said: “We knew the first time we utilized the ICARUS Device in our helicopters that they were a game changer not only for the level of training and proficiency but also for the comfort level of our pilots and clinicians. Using the device in the fixed-wing will allow us to take training to a level only previously available in a simulator.”
Apollo MedFlight provides 24 hour emergency and non-emergency air medical transport, with a diverse fleet that includes the Bell 407, Bell 429, EC-135, EC-145, PC-12, and King Air aircraft.
